Hmm this diving lark seems to be getting in the way of my blog keeping.
So this week I have been guiding a bunch of certified divers which has been fun. Thankfully the weather seems to have played in our favour and when the wind was up in Ras Mohammed, we would be enjoying flat seas in Tiran, and when Tiran was all lumpy and nasty, we were again cruising glassy seas on the Thistlegorm… what a stroke of luck!
On both days in Tiran, we had such low winds, that we could do whatever we wanted. Not being the time of year really to go around the back of Jackson looking for hammerheads, we were still able to drift it on both days, flying past the lighthouse and continuing around the back where normally swell and waves would have made the pick up no fun at all. On both days this week, it was dead easy.
We even made it up to the Kormoran, a wreck to the North of Tiran that we very rarely dive. Not only does it need flat seas, it is quite hard to schedule as the dive is pretty shallow, and quite a distance from the jetty. We had a great dive pottering around the remains of this pretty large ship, moseying around the winches, hatches and remains. I could see what was left of a kitchen in the stern, complete with a set of mixer taps and tiled flooring. I even found a couple of very large gas tanks. What they were full of, who knows, but you could see the valve at the top despite its covering of coral. The surrounding area is completely covered with excellent, pristine table corals too which in itself is beautiful. Not to forget a few very territorial surgeon fish lurking around the wreck itself.
