What a fantastic dive on which to end the week… five sharks on Shark and Yolande reef!!! And it was the last day of an advanced course… way to go.

I love that reef, it always manages to come up trumps whatever time of year it is, and even if you don’t get to see any big stuff.

Today we were off to the beach for Open Water day two. We had completed some of the confined stuff, but thought it would be good to get a look at some fish to remind everyone why they were going through all these bothersome skills n stuff hehe.
All went well, I did three dives… quite an achievement trudging 12kilos up and down that beach (yes I am a wuss in my drysuit), no need for the gym for me today!
Bizarrely it was not too cold… in fact this January has been spookily warm… just wait, I bet February is freezing! Today it was 23ºC off the beach and probably about the same air temperature as well. Even the pool yesterday registered 26ºC!!! Oooo.

Ok so I have a lot lot lot of copying and pasting ahead of me before the Bunnnie Blog is fully back up and running, and sadly there is a big chunk of last year that has disappeared into the ether, but in the grand scale of things, I had been writing it for over three years, so all was not lost. Big thanks to the guys at YD who posted a great archiving link where the bulk of my blog had been saved! Phew!

So, what has been going on since I last posted here?? All the usual stuff really, we are back to work with a vengeance, and the dive centre is hectically busy… possibly because there are currently some ridiculous offers about, so people are escaping from the misery of home for a bargain price. Great for us, as it keeps us working and diving!

So whilst the weather is making its mind up as to what it wants to do this week, we enjoyed a great couple of days’ diving. I had been guiding a group of mixed abilities who wanted to ease into it and stay local for their trip, however I then got put onto a boat headed a little further afield yesterday.

First day was Ras Mohammed, and off we went with our little group of 8 divers. Sadly the boat was rocking and rolling (a bit like the end of last week!), so we decided to only do one dive on the East side of the peninsula. Ras Za’atar, to be precise. I haven’t dived this site for a few weeks, and we had a lovely dive.. it is always best in the morning when the sun is at the right angle.

Being a three dive day, we followed that with the Alternatives, which includes a pinnacle known as “Stingray Station”. OK so we didn’t see any huge rays, but I counted 8 blue spotted rays along the dive, as well as a large napoleon wrasse, and the viz was great, so the coral looked sooo pretty.

The final dive was the famous Shark and Yolande which we started from Anenome City, so that we could hitch a ride on the current and fly across the blue before hitting Shark Reef. Again another lovely dive, with turtles, and another napoleon wrasse! Not a bad day at all.

Today was Tiran… and it was windy Ooooh. Anyone who has been here before knows that Tiran and wind can mean quite a challenging day. However luckily the wind was only causing choppy waters rather than any big swells. We got off the jetty in super quick time (8.30am) so were the first group of divers to hit the water. It was glorious, the sun was out, the coral fantastic, and the current minimal, so we had a lovely dive.

This afternoon we had a couple of options… Thomas (all the way round) or Ghamilla… the guests chose Ghamilla (didn’t want to swim against any currents… fair enough) so it was off to Ghamilla for us. And again we had another very nice dive. Very little current (despite it looking strong when we were moored on Gordon) which gently pushed us along towards the lighthouse. An eagle ray decided to greet some of the divers as we were out on the plateau, and several barracuda popped up throughout the dive! Very cool, and a very nice end to the week.

So it’s not looking good as far as the Deepstop blog supplier goes, and it looks like this might be the beginning of my new blog!!! I can’t believe it, over two years of entries, dive logs and general musings totally lost in space!! Apparently the site got hijeacked and they are trying as we speak to retrieve data! The irony is that I had tried to import all my entries and save them here, but for some reason it didnt work with my mac system… Aghhh.
So… guess it is a new beginning… no use crying over spilt milk.
Right, back to the blog. It was Scuba Review day today… I had two advanced divers and two who had only four dives, so a little bit of a contrast in experienced, but all went well. We are all diving together tomorrow, so hopefully things will go well and we’ll see some good stuff. The weather report is fairly flat all week, so let’s hope we get some decent diving done.

So we have got back into the work mode now, although it has taken a week to stop feeling like it was the middle of the night whenever my alarm went off in the morning. Today we were off to the Dunraven, so it was an early start.
So we got off to a good start time wise, leaving the jetty nice and early, only to find that there was a bit of swell (bit of an understatement). Well it had been windy for a couple of days, and was still windy this morning, so a nice choppy swell had built up, throwing our boat around the houses a bit. For over an hour we rocked and rolled until we got past the tip of the peninsula and were able to turn around the corner into shelter. In all honesty it wasn’t that brilliant around the corner, but everything is relative, and this was comparitively lovely. Thankfully we were able to do all our dives in the sheltered spots, but I must admit, by the end of the day, I was getting a little bored of the constant rocking effect… never good when you are needing to look down, packing kit etc.. oooo. By the time I got home, I still felt like I was on the boat (which hasn’t happened to me in a long time).
