Still in a shortie!

So another week… another course… actually it is all good, as we get plenty of practice with timing everything to fit into the new four day schedule. Yes we finally buckled under the pressure of guests wanting to do the course quicker, and every other dive centre in Sharm doing it in four days. So gone are the days where we can take it really slowly. Of course if someone needs the extra time, then this is still always an option… being a performance based course etc.

Anyway, I was team teaching again this week which was fun. And I am still in a shortie! I am holding out for as long as possible… piling on the layers a bit… with 3 at the last count… thank you Nick for the lovely fleecie Thermocline which is truly coming into its own at the moment!

But the fish are still lovely and there is still big stuff out and about. Hammers were only seen last week on the back of Jackson (admittedly it was early morning on one of our over night trips) and the other day a leopard shark was seen on Shark and Yolande reef. I saw a giant trevallie yesterday! He he… well I have been confined to local dives for the last few weeks… ah well. I did see a Red Sea Walkman yesterday (no not an MP3 player) which was only me second ever.

So don’t say winter is on its way already!!!
OK for most people it still feels roasting hot (even for me during the day) but the evenings are lovely n refreshing, and sadly that means that the sea is cooling down!!! A bit on the fast side for my liking too. It is still 26ºC in the water, but when it was 29º or 30º just two weeks ago, it is a bit of a shock to the system to be suddenly feeling the chill a bit.
So the layers are going on now… at the moment the total rests at three layers with a hood. (that is two shortie wetsuits over a thermocline top, but don’t forget I am one of the biggest wusses around when it comes to the cold… so don’t go bringing out your drysuits just yet!! He he… but the skinny ones amongst you might want to think about bringing a hood.

So… all those years of singing, dancing and presenting etc and I never got on the front page of a magazine. I move to Sharm, become a diving instructor, get married, and hey presto! I end up on the front page of the local mag!!! Well I guess our wedding did end up being a bit of a Sharm social event of the year, and we did have the best photographer in town taking the snaps, so I suppose it made a very pretty front cover of The Mix.

Well, after many weeks’ planning, and more than a few sleepless nights… it actually all came together!!! And this I can say was the best day of my life!
Thankfully due to the heat, we hadn’t planned to do anything before 6pm, which gave us plenty of time to decorate our little home, as we decided to hold the ceremony in our rather special back garden, special because it opens out onto the cliff top that some of you will recognise as Ras Katy with a view of the sea and the Ras Mohammed National Park beyond. With the sun low in the sky, it really did turn out to be quite a spectacular view, more so than normal.
Everyone had turned up, with around 40 coming from the UK and another 40 or more of our local friends. We had Barry White playing whilst everyone arrived and then my brothers played Led Zeppelin’s “The Rain Song” on accoustic guitars as my Dad walked me down a natural “aisle” that runs the length of our garden. Surrounded by so many friends and family I very nearly lost it, but managed not to be a “bawler” as they say in Wedding Crashers and even held it together for the vows.
We had a Celebrant Tina over from the Uk to perform the ceremony for us (although as you know we had already had the fun bit in Cairo doing all the legal stuff) and she was absolutely perfect. It wasn’t long before we were exchanging rings as the sun set over the pink mountains and the champagne began to flow.
The party then moved to the famous (or could it be infamous) Terrazzina beach restaurant, where our lovely Disco Dave played our favourite music for more wine dance and song. What am amazing night.
