So.. I started the week guiding so had the prospect of at least five days diving out and about from local sites to Tiran, Ras Mohammed, possibly Dunraven and Thistlegorm, and the chance of seeing some of the big stuff that is coming in already (sharks regularly sighted off the Paradise reef, white tip shark seen off Ras Nasrani and a whale shark seen on Jackfish alley!!), But… no it was not for me, one day on the boat, and I was then assigned as snorkel guide for a day before starting an open water course.. so it is back to the pool for me.
In fairness, I did get a day off last week, so jumped on a boat to fun dive in Ras Mohammed and whilst the life is really filling out, I didn’t see anything big n bulky at all.
Anyway, guess I had better get back to the classroom to put that video on for my students.

A new Bar in Hadaba!!

So the long awaited bar has arrived!!! And boy did it arrive.
It was our first day of work after returning from the UK and the Papas Tavern had their opening night. A mix of Papas from Hurghada and Charlie’s Tavern here in Sharm, but the beauty of this bar is that it is based in Hadaba. For those of you who don’t know the area, Hadaba is where most of the dive guides in Sharm live, and until now has been pretty much devoid of bars, or certainly the kind of bars we would like to go to. Previously we were limited to one of two bakeries and a couple of local bars very much geared towards the local, male customer.
So the opening night was a ball… there was a free bar all night! Always a good thing when you get a bunch of dive guides together (or anyone for that matter) and we had entertainment with the band Frankie’s Flying Circus who blasted out all the old favourites, with a twist. Cool. I liked the camel cameo at one point. Sadly we left before the free tee shirts were being flung out.
All in all, a great night was had by pretty much everyone.

Back in the water… well kind of…

At last! Finally we are back in Sharm and back in the water… well kind of… I was in the pool yesterday doing the first day of a rescue course, so we weren’t exactly down under for particularly long.
I always do love that feeling tho, when you have had a break and you jump back in the water again. I missed that floaty feeling.
I also missed the sunshine!! So much for global warming, the UK was cold wet and windy!!! In fact I think we barely saw a patch of blue sky while we were over there. I had heard reports of a heatwave etc, so had even taken flip flops n shorts over with me… doh!!! I spent the whole week in either one of my two pairs of long trousers together with either one of my two warm tops!!! How totally distressing, a girl needs to look at least halfway decent, and by the third day, I was getting a bit fed up with the lack of choice in my suitcase.
Anyway, needless to say I am happy to be back in the sunshine bearing a whole new collection of tops, shorts n bikinis. Yep, I did a little shopping while we were in the smoke.
