Eclipse!

So… today was a day off… hence the spare time enabling me to set up this blog.
So in light of today’s eclpse, a few of us decided to head down to the beach, armed with special eclipse sunnies, to watch the moon inch its way across the sun.
Sadly we are just a little too far away from the North Western corner of Egypt, so were unable to view the full “totality” as they call it, however we were due to lose 75% of the sun today, so it would have been clearly visible.
Unfortunately, precisely at the moment the moon started it’s traverse across the sun’s face… clouds came over!!! Now if we were in the Uk, this would have come as no surprise, but we are in a desert! And have had approximately an absolute maximum of 14 cloudy days this winter. However it made for an interesting lunchtime, as we all made a dash for our special specs the minute a chink appeared in those pesky clouds.
We did get to see the full 75% coverage too which was cool, so I guess all was not lost.
Of course, the minute the eclipse ended, the clouds dissipated. Maybe that is normal. With my limited knowledge of astronomy, I would not have a clue as to whether the weather would be cloudy within the moon’s shadow. All I do know is that the phase of the sun and moon most certainly affect the tides and therefore currents, so I guess the weather could get affected to an extent. If you know better, do let me know!
